How Quinnox’s SAP MII Platform Helped Save $400,000 for a Global Air and Gas Compressor Manufacturer

About the Client:

Our client is a leading global manufacturer specializing in air and gas compressors, with production plants located worldwide. The company continually acquires businesses and integrates its best practices across critical functions such as Sales, Analytics, Purchasing, and Operations. They have recently acquired a manufacturing facility in Illinois, which produces blowers. 

Business Need

The Illinois facility faced significant operational inefficiencies on the production floor. Key issues included: 

  • Delayed Floor Operations Reporting: Production floor activities were reported only at the end of each shift, limiting real-time visibility. 
  • Lack of Ready Status: There was no clear indication of production readiness during shifts due to which supervisors and schedulers struggled to keep track of ongoing production statuses, resulting in operational delays and missed downtimes. 
  • Inconsistent Practices: As a newly acquired plant, its existing workflows and practices differed significantly from the client’s established global standards, particularly those followed at their Illinois facility. 

The Quinnox Solution

To address these challenges, Quinnox designed and implemented an enhanced SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (MII) solution tailored to the facility’s specific requirements: 

  • Enhanced SAP MII Platform: Redesigned the existing SAP MII system to better align with the facility’s operational needs. 
  • Integrated Data Flow: Sales orders, production orders, work centers, Bills of Materials (BOM), and material data were seamlessly pushed into the MII platform to ensure accurate and up-to-date information. 
  • Real-Time Dashboards: Customized dashboards for production, sales, and supervisors were developed using JSP technology, providing live visibility into operations. 
  • SAP Connectivity: JCO calls were utilized to ensure smooth integration and data exchange with the SAP ERP system. 
  • Quality Control Enhancements: Quality inspection forms were generated online during production, improving traceability and compliance. 

Additionally, the solution incorporated management of shifts, holidays, reason codes, and other operational parameters to fully support day-to-day activities. 

Benefits We Delivered

The implementation delivered significant operational improvements and measurable cost savings: 

  • Achieved a projected annual savings of $250,000 by optimizing the time spent by supervisors, operators, and schedulers. 
  • Enabled near real-time visibility into floor operations, significantly reducing manual reporting and downtime, which translated into an additional $150,000 in annual cost savings.
